Guest Speaker

7.1.-About-Jeff-Mannes

Jeff Mannes is a cultural historian and tour guide who uncovers Berlin’s rich — and often hidden — sexual history. With a background in political science and gender studies, he explores how queerness, power, and identity have shaped the city across centuries.

Blending deep research with vivid storytelling, Jeff brings Berlin’s past to life — from the wild Weimar years to periods of repression and today’s vibrant queer scene. What makes his tours stand out: the use of augmented reality, letting visitors see historical scenes unfold in the places where they happened.

With heart, humor, and tech-savvy insight, Jeff invites you to experience Berlin’s past like never before.

Steffen Jost 2

Steffen Jost is the Head of Digital & Publishing at the Jewish Museum Berlin, and he will speak about his prior work at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial (AR on site), focusing on planning/rollout in a sensitive context, visitor engagement, and collaboration lessons.

Andreas Engwert Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen

Andreas Engwert is a historian and educator at the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the former Stasi prison in East Berlin. In addition to his work in visitor education, he has conceptualized several exhibitions over the years — including the new permanent exhibition in the former women’s prison. His curatorial work often integrates advanced technologies such as augmented reality and volumetric time-witness recordings, bringing personal stories of political repression in the GDR to life in new and engaging ways.
